More Landlord Tennant Law Terms

by Simon Carlin
(New York, NY)

Here are some common landlord tennant law terminology that I have to add:

Abandoned Property - Possessions belonging to the tenant that are left behind intentionally and permanently. After a tenant moves out, his possessions will be labelled as abandoned property if he does not return to claim it after a certain period of time.

Common Area - A space or facility in a multi-unit property that is shared and used by all tenants. Common areas may include parking, outdoor space, recreation facilities, landscaping, fences, laundry rooms and all other jointly used areas.

Ejectment - Legal process to remove someone who is both occupying and laying false claims to one's property. This is not the same as eviction because in the case of eviction, the person staying on the property isn't claiming ownership of it.
