How to Lower Your Landlord Tenant Attorney Fees
Landlord Legal Advice PART 3

If you are a landlord or property manager, hiring a reliable landlord tenant attorney can save you precious money and time. Find out how to lower your landlord legal fees in this Part 3 of our Guide to Hiring Landlord Attorneys.

Have you know what a landlord attorney can do for you and how to choose the right one? If No, Click here to Part 1 for Free Online Landlord Legal Advice.

Have Your Landlord Legal Fees and Payment Method Worked Out Carefully

While our personal experience has taught us that a reliable property lawyer is worth his weight in gold because of the time and unnecessary costs he will save you, we also understand that most people want good landlord legal advice at reasonable fees.

Before you choose to hire someone as your landlord tenant attorney, it's always a good idea to discuss his legal fees first. Does he charge you by the hour or do you pay a fixed sum to settle your problem?

Most of time simple cases like the drafting of a lease agreement will be a one time payment while more complex issues like eviction lawsuits will probably go by hourly rates.

If you are charged hourly, then be sure to ask him how much time he will need to handle your case. This will give you a good estimate of how much money you will have to cough up.

If you cannot afford your landlord legal fees upfront, you can always try to request that you pay him back in monthly installments instead. Many lawyers will accept installment payments but some of them may charge interest so do ask if there are any extra charges for this type of billing.

Look for Landlord Tenant Attorneys Who Charge Lower Landlord Legal Fees

Before you make an appointment with a landlord tenant attorney, phone or email them to find out if the first consultation is free. Some lawyers do not charge for the first time or before they decide to take up your case.

Others will bill you at a lower rate for the first meeting. Unless you are sure that your lawyer is worth the money, we would suggest avoiding an attorney who charges full fees for the initial consultation.

From our personal experience of dealing with landlord attorneys, a branded law firm does not guarantee that you will land yourself a masterful lawyer and gunning for senior attorneys from a top law firm will usually cost you a bomb.

If you have the time, our landlord legal advice is to hunt for experienced attorneys from small law firms (usually that means he or she is a partner of the firm).

Prepare Your Paperwork and Legal Questions Before Meeting Your Attorney

Before meeting up with your landlord tenant attorney to discuss your legal problems, it helps for you to be organized and bring as much relevant information regarding your case. That way your lawyer can save time gathering data and you can cut down on your landlord legal fees.

Don't be afraid to ask your attorney what are the basic things that you can do by yourself to cut down on his or her legal fees (such filling in legal forms or delivering notices). In some cases, a busy attorney will be more than glad to have you perform these mundane and time-consuming tasks.

If you have any queries, you can also prepare a list of questions to ask him or her. Be direct and precise when you are looking for landlord legal advice. It's better to be business-like than to be over-friendly and waste your precious hours on idle chit-chat.

Before and during the actual course of the lawsuit, be sure to inform your attorney right away if there are any updates or sudden changes to your situation so that he can have enough time to respond.
