Interviewing Your Landlord Tenant Attorney

by Tisha Allen
(Kingston, NY)

Landlord tenant law has always been one thorny issue that most landlords struggle with. That's why having a smart landlord tenant attorney by your side is vital if you want to sail through your legal battles with ease.

Your search for a trusted landlord attorney should begin before there is any legal trouble brewing. This website already contains a wealth of detailed advice on choosing the right landlord tenant lawyer so I will just focus on sharing my experience for interviewing an attorney.

Below are the list of questions that I will ask a rental property lawyer when I'm interviewing him or her:

* How many years of experience do you have in landlord tenant law?

* Can you provide me with references of other rental property owners that you have represented and worked with?

* What is your hourly rate and what is your billing time interval?

* Will I be charged for an initial interview and telephone consultations

* Will you be willing to sign a written retainer agreement with me? (with a retainer agreement the landlord tenant attorney has to turn down other cases to work on yours - In exchange you will have to pay him a down payment)
